How We Work
Education and Training
Education is at the heart of CHEEERS:DHT. Each year, we work with our colleagues at Kisiizi Hospital to organise a multidisciplinary healthcare conference and educational workshops. The programme brings Irish and Ugandan healthcare professionals together to share knowledge, experience and ideas, while also creating opportunities for healthcare teams across Uganda to learn from one another. We fund attendance for up to 100 healthcare professionals, helping make this shared learning accessible to a much wider group of healthcare professionals.
Working together on service development
Alongside the conference and workshops, each healthcare discipline works with their counterparts in Kisiizi on projects aimed at improving services and addressing locally identified needs. These may include staff education, clinical audits, new resources or guidelines, and other quality improvement initiatives. The projects are agreed with the teams in Kisiizi with the aim to support changes that are practical, useful and can continue after the visiting team has returned home.
Supporting Kisiizi Hospital
We also raises funds and provides equipment for projects identified as priorities by Kisiizi Hospital. This has included support for education and training, scholarships, medical and rehabilitation equipment, and other hospital developments. More recently, CHEEERS: DHT contributed €25,000 towards a new ambulance, helping provide safe and reliable transport for patients requiring urgent or specialist care.
At the heart of CHEEERS:DHT is our long-standing relationship with Kisiizi Hospital and the people who work there. We aim to work alongside our Ugandan colleagues, sharing knowledge and supporting sustainable improvements rather than providing short-term solutions.
